Laptop used up(exterior) Foobar2000

I spent most of my Saturday installing my Debian machine at home.

Debian LogoAt the moment myself and Cindy only use our laptops for work, and I have my old desktop pc, which is a Pentium 4, 1.7Ghz with 500MB memory, which is just gathering dust. I’ve actually scavaged it before - took out the AGP screencard and gave to a family member, and just placed a S3 Virge card in I found in the garage.

My intent is to use the machine as a file/media server and maybe later on throw Subversion,mySQL and prob a small POP server on it.  But this weekend I had a very bare minimum destro installed which only has Samba and SSH packages installed.  I took most of the day just copying and organising my archives of files, documents and media and retrieving the files from backup.

The box runs very nicely, and speed is very impressive, and I feel that the “clean” system just makes the Zend on my home-network just shine brightly… now all I gotta keep in mind is to keep it simple and clean when growing the machine with other apps…. which always seems to get out of control when playing around with new packages or distros….lol
